Haralowka Cemetery - Blaine Lake District, Saskatchewan

Historical Background

Haralowka (aka Gorelovka) Cemetery was established in 1899 by the Doukhobors of Large Haralowka and Small Haralowka villages near Blaine Lake. After the abandonment of the villages in 1920, the cemetery continued to be used by Doukhobors living in the Haralowka School District No. 2396 (1909-1957) and is still in active use today.  It is privately owned and is maintained by a cemetery committee. The cemetery is in very good condition.

Layout

The cemetery is one and a half acres in size and is enclosed by a wire fence and caragana hedge. There is an iron gate on the east side. The cemetery contains approximately 176 interments in a single section comprised of eight rows facing east-west. Approximately 40 of the graves have no marker, however, many of the mounds are still clearly visible. These remain unidentified. With respect to graves with markers, the markers are typically plain slate, marble or concrete upright headstones or flat markers set flush to the ground. Click here for an online cemetery map.
