The following is a transcription of Riverhill (Spasovka) Cemetery located 12 miles east of Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan. Rural Municipality of Blaine Lake No. 434. Historical Background

Spasovka Cemetery was established in 1916 by the Doukhobors living in the vicinity of the former Spasovka village near Blaine Lake. Located in the Riverhill School District No. 2586 (1910-1959), it also came to be known as Riverhill Cemetery. The cemetery still in active use. It is privately owned and is maintained by a cemetery committee. The cemetery is in good condition.

Layout

The cemetery is one acre in size and is enclosed by a wire fence. There is an iron gate on the north side. The cemetery contains approximately 120 interments in two sections (east section and west section) comprised of eleven rows facing east-west. Approximately 31 of the graves have no marker and the mounds have been levelled. I have used the cemetery records to identify 29 of these. The rest remain unidentified. With respect to graves with markers, the markers are typically plain slate, marble or concrete upright headstones or flat markers set flush to the ground. Click here for an online cemetery map.

Driving Directions

To access the cemetery, travel east from the Town of Blaine Lake on Township Road No. 445 for 10 miles (16.1 km). Then turn north on Range Road No. 3052 and continue for 2 miles (3.2 km). The cemetery is located at the southeast corner of the junction of Range Road No. 3052 and Township Road No. 431. This cemetery is on private property and permission to access should be obtained by the owners.
