Tambovka Cemetery - Borden District, Saskatchewan

The following is a transcription of Tambovka Doukhobor Cemetery located 1 3/4 miles east of Borden, Saskatchewan. Rural Municipality of Great Bend No. 405. Land location: SE 2-40-9 West of Third. Latitude: 52°24.456. Longitude: 107°11.197. Transcribed by Jonathan J. Kalmakoff on August 25, 2006.

Historical Background

Tambovka Cemetery was established in 1900 by the Doukhobors of Tambovka village near Borden. After the abandonment of the village in 1907, the cemetery ceased to be actively used. It is somewhat overgrown. The cemetery is privately owned.

Layout

The cemetery is approximately a tenth of an acre in size. It contains approximately 2-4 interments, only one of which is marked by a headstone. It is unenclosed and is located in the middle of a cultivated field.

Driving Directions

To access the cemetery from Borden, travel east on Highway No. 16 for 2 1/4 miles (3.6 km). Or to access the cemetery from Langham, travel west on Highway No. 16 for 8 miles (12.8 km). In either case, then turn north on Larsen Road and continue for 1 1/2 miles (2.4 km). Then turn west into the farmyard approach. From the farmyard, continue west on the dirt road as it bends south for approximately 1/4 mile (.5 km). The cemetery is 100 yards (91 m) west of the dirt road, across a cultivated field. This cemetery is on private property and permission to access should be obtained by the owners.
