Trinity (Troitskoe) Cemetery - Blaine Lake District, Saskatchewan

The following is a transcription of Trinity Doukhobor Cemetery located 7 miles southwest of Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan. Rural Municipality of Blaine Lake No. 434. Historical Background

Troitskoye Cemetery, as it was originally known, was established in 1899 by the Doukhobors of Troitskoye village near Blaine Lake. Following the abandonment of the village in 1917, the cemetery continued to be used by Doukhobors living in the Trinity School District No. 2404 (1909-1960). For this reason, it came to be known as Trinity Cemetery. It is still in active use today.  It is privately owned and is maintained by a cemetery committee. The cemetery is in good condition.

Layout

The cemetery is one acre in size and is enclosed by a wire fence. There is an iron gate on the west side. The cemetery contains approximately 80 interments in a single section comprised of six rows facing east-west. Approximately half the graves (40) have no marker, however, many of the mounds are still clearly visible. These remain unidentified. With respect to graves with markers, the markers are typically plain slate, marble or concrete upright headstones or flat markers set flush to the ground. Click here for an online cemetery map.
