Vera
In 1899, Doukhobors from Tiflis, Russia established the village of Verovka (Веровка) along the Swan River in the present Arran district of Saskatchewan. The name is derived from the Russian term vera, meaning “faith”, a virtue extolled by the Doukhobors. In 1902, it was altered to Vera (Вера). By 1917 it was abandoned as villagers relocated to individual homesteads or to British Columbia. (1905 pop. 144) [NE24-34-30-W1]
