Krasnaya Gora
This mountain is located near the former village of Spasovka (present-day Sahnalar) in the Akyaka district of Kars province, Turkey. Because of its many red rock formations, the Doukhobors named it Krasnaya Gora (Красная Гора), meaning “red mountain”. At the peak of the mountain was a Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878) site with trenches (lozhamenty) where the Kars Doukhobors held the Burning of Arms in 1895. For this reason, the mountain was also known as Gora Lozhementa (Гора Ложамента). The mountain can be seen from throughout the district and is an important visual landmark demarcating the former Doukhobor homeland in Turkey. [40° 46' 45” N - 43° 32' 24” E]
