Tolstoi School
In 1929, Doukhobor settlers petitioned for the organization of a separate school district north of Veregin, Saskatchewan. They suggested the name Tolstoi to commemorate Lev Tolstoi (1828-1910), Russian novelist, social reformer and benefactor of the Doukhobors. The resulting Tolstoi School District No. 4730, which was formed out of the existing Whitesand School District, operated there until 1960. [SE29-30-1-W2]
