Wisnia School
In 1913, Doukhobor and Ukrainian settlers petitioned for the organization of a school district south of Veregin, Saskatchewan. They originally suggested the name Wishnia, meaning “cherry” in Russian, after the wild cherries that abounded the area. However, the Department of Education mistakenly registered the name as Wisnia School District No. 2870. It operated until 1963. [SW19-29-1-W2]
