Verigin Beach

District: Imperial
Province: Saskatchewan
Country: Canada

This flooded gravel pit was located one mile south of Imperial, Saskatchewan. It was a popular local swimming hole in the 1950s and 1960s. Many locals went skinny-dipping there. It was an era when the Sons of Freedom were infamous for their nude parades. Thus the swimming hole became jocularly known as Verigin Beach after the former leader who was undoubtedly the only Doukhobor name the locals recognized. In the 1980s, it was filled in.
