Abysinnia
In 1911-1912, Community Doukhobors established a village in the Krestova district of British Columbia. In the 1930’s, it acquired the name Abysinnia (Абысиння). According to tradition, at this time, Sons of Freedom arrived in the village who carried on in a wild and unruly manner. In despair, the original villagers likened their village to the African country of Abyssinia, which had just been invaded and overrun by Italy. It was destroyed by fire in 1947.
