Alekseyevka
In 1903, Doukhobors established the village of Alexeyevka (Алексеевка) in the present Kamsack district of Saskatchewan. The name is derived from the Russian men’s name Aleksei and probably commemorates an early village elder. The village was renowned for its spinning and weaving handiwork. In 1904, it was abandoned for a more suitable location a mile east, which was called Petrovka. The few who remained at the old site renamed it Staro-Petrovo (Старо-Петрово) meaning “Old Petrovo”. It was abandoned soon thereafter. [SW21-28-32-W1]
