Agassiz Camp
In 1963, 500 Sons of Freedom trecked from Krestova to Agassiz, British Columbia, where 100 of their brethren had been imprisoned in a specially-constructed federal Mountain Prison. They established a shanty town in the gravel pit next to the Mountain Prison. There, they cultivated their gardens and acquired local employment as labourers. As the prisoners were released, their families relocated elsewhere with them. In 1972, following the release of the last of the prisoners, the shanty town was disbanded and most of the remaining Sons of Freedom relocated to the New Settlement near Krestova.
