Shafter Colony
In 1909, five Doukhobor families from Saskatchewan purchased land near Shafter in Kern County, California, where they formed a small colony. The purchase turned out to be misrepresented, however, as the land had not been sold by its rightful owner and thus did not belong to them. Consequently, the families were forced off the land in 1913. [38° 0' N - 122° 42' W]
