Peshcherochki
These caves are located in the Bugdasheni River gorge near the village of Orlovka in the Ninotsminda district of Samtskhe-Javakheti region, Georgia. The name is an affectionate form of the Russian term peshcheri, meaning “caves”. The Peshcherochki (Пещерочки) was a favorite place of 19th century Doukhobor leader Lukeria Kalmykova to relax and reflect. On June 29, 1895, on the flat, rocky plateau above the caves, the Doukhobors burned their weapons in protest against war and killing. Local Doukhobors gather at this sacred site annually to celebrate Peter's Day. A Doukhobor psalm is carved into the rock face above the caves. [+41° 11' 42.79", +43° 39' 58.00"]
